Profiles of Executive Management and Management Development Consultants |
Mr. Givah has over 10 years experience with the Malawi Institute of Management in management training, consulting and research. His work has mainly been conducting training and providing consulting services in Economics and Project Management, Strategic Planning and Management, Organizational Assessment and Development, Impact Assessments of HIV and AIDS, Private and Public Sector Management Assessment, and Small and Medium Enterprise. In addition to this, Mr. Givah has coordinated the work of Management Development Consultants that included the review of consultancy proposals and reports, providing guidance and leadership on training, research and consulting assignments. He has also led executive assessment teams that have assisted clients in the recruitment of senior members of staff, both permanent and project staff. His research work has mainly been in areas related to HIV/AIDS and small business development.
Mr. Givah has also supervised students on the Cambridge University International Diploma in Project Management, and the MSc in Strategic Management Degree of the University of Derby and Malawi Institute of Management.
Since March 1999 Mr. Givah has been deputy Executive Director at MIM. Apart from providing leadership to consultants, as deputy Executive Director his work has included assisting the Executive Director in providing strategic leadership to the Institute.
Before joining MIM, Mr. Givah spent over thirteen years working in Government and gained vast experience in industrial development and promotion with emphasis on the small and medium enterprises (SME) sector related policy analysis and formulation. From 1993 to 1996 he was Project Coordinator for the World Bank financed Small and Medium Enterprise Support Project with a portfolio of US$1 million. Before that he coordinated the preparation of Programme II of the 1986-1997 Malawi Government/United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) 5th Country Programme. |

Mrs Kachingwe is currently the Director of Finance at Malawi Institute of Management responsible for day to day Finance and Administration of the Institute. Prior to joining MIM, Mrs Kachingwe worked at USAID Malawi as a Program Management Specialist where she Managed the Health program budget and its implementation, managed Health program procurement and training activities and managed Health program work plans, performance and close out report activities.
She has also worked in various finance positions for Executive Solutions Limited, BARREM Project, Press Agriculture Limited, Christian Service Committee of Churches in Malawi, Malawi College of Accountancy and ADMARC

Mrs. Chrissie Najira is a Management Development Consultant in Human Resource Management (HRM), Gender, HIV and AIDS at the Malawi Institute of Management (MIM). In this regard, she is responsible for the design and delivery of courses in generic and in-house programs in HRM, Gender, HIV and AIDS and general management as well as conducting consultancy and research.
Mrs Najira is also a local supervisor of some students writing dissertations on the Master of Science in Strategic Management Degree Programme, which is offered by the University of Derby in the United Kingdom in conjunction with the Malawi Institute of Management.
She teaches Human Resource Management modules on the Executive Diploma in Management Programme, which is run by the University of Cambridge in conjunction with the Malawi Institute of Management.
She also lectures on the Human Resource Management modules and Business and Professional Ethics modules on the Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme, which is run by Management College of Southern Africa (MANCOSA).
Prior to joining MIM, Mrs. Najira worked in the Civil Service in different capacities in the field of HRM and Education. She has over 10 years experience in Human Resource Management and Development and General Management acquired from the Ministries of Education, Agriculture, the Civil Service Commission and the Department of Human Resource Management and Development where she was actively involved in human resource issues such as human resource planning, recruitment, selection and induction, establishment control, performance management, budgeting and preparation of personal emoluments, policy formulation and reviews, reward management and salary administration.
Mrs. Najira is also a seasoned secondary school teacher with extensive experience in education management and examinations management. She was a Chief Examiner in Junior Certificate Home Economics, an Assistant Examiner in Malawi School Certificate Home Economics and an examiner in Biology and Agriculture. Mrs. Najira has experience in administering and managing international examinations.
In the last five years Mrs Najira has been involved in the training of top level and middle level managers both in the public and private sectors in various management areas. |

Mr. Chiphazi is a Senior Management Development Consultant in Business Management at the Malawi Institute of Management (MIM). He has extensive experience in Business Management, both locally and internationally. He has served in various capacities in Marketing, Sales and General Management in the Private Sector. He has dealt with human resource issues, including job evaluation and grading, organization and methods, performance management and information systems while with Department of Human Resource Management and Development of the Malawi Civil Service. He has had experience in consultancies in Project Management, Marketing, Strategic Planning, public Sector Reforms and Decentralization, and Public Health Management. Mr. Chiphazi has been consulting with a number of organizations including USAID, Save the Children Umoyo Network, GTZ/MGPDD, Centres for Disease Control (CDC) USAID/DMS, Malawi Human Rights Commission, Norwegian Church Aid, just to mention a few.
Mr. Chiphazi’s major consulting assignments include: restructuring and design of corporate governance for TEVET, the formulation of strategic plans for Auction Holdings, MACRA, Malawi Micro Finance Network, and Department of Irrigation. Mr. Chiphazi was also involved in the design of management structure and corporate governance for Public Technical Colleges. In 2001, Mr. Chiphazi was a key member in the Capacity Building and Institution Development assignment for National Directorate of Rural Development (DNDR) of Mozambique. He has also been involved in the evaluation of MHRC Public Inquiry Project. Under the auspices of Save the Children, Mr. Chiphazi conducted Mid Term Review of Ekwendeni Hospital (PHC) Project. He was also involved in the development of Balanced Scorecard for National Bank of Malawi.
Prior to joining MIM Mr. Chiphazi worked for Portland Cement Company as Marketing Manager for eight years where he was responsible for the formulation of marketing plans; distribution systems for the organization; providing customer service activities to sustain the organization of new and old clients. Mr. Chiphazi doubled as General Manager for Brick and Tile Company (a division of Portland Cement) for a period of two years.
In 1984 while pursing his master’s degree in the United Kingdom, he was attached to Tate and Lyle Sugar Refineries in London for a period of six months and his duties were of a Physical Distribution Assistant.
For a period of eight years, Mr. Chiphazi also held positions of Sales and Marketing Manager for Import and Export Company (Chipiku Stores Division) where he was responsible for designing and managing sales and distribution strategies for the company.
From 1980 to 1988 Mr. Chiphazi worked as Management Services Officer in the Malawi Civil service (Department of Human Resource Development). Between 1988 and 1990, Mr. Chiphazi served as senior training consultant for USAID (READ) Project. |

Mr Chitwere joined the Malawi Institute of Management (MIM) after vast experience in the field of training and consulting. His career started when he worked as a Lecturer in Finance at the Staff Development Institute in 1991. He was promoted to the position of Senior Lecturer in Finance in 1994. His duties included development and delivery of courses in Finance, conducting research and consultancy and deputising the Head of Finance Department.
While at the Staff Development Institute, he worked at the Polytechnic, a constituent college of the University of Malawi, as a lecturer in accounting in the Continuing Education Centre on part-time basis. His students graduated with certificates from the Royal Society of Arts and the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He also taught Computerised Accounting at the Training Centre of the Data Processing Department, Ministry of Finance. The output was a Diploma in Computer Studies from the National Computing Centre in the United Kingdom.
Mr Chitwere has, in the last three years’ been teaching the Management Accounting and Financial Reporting module on the Master of Science in Strategic Management Degree Programme which is offered by the University of Derby in the United Kingdom in conjunction with the Malawi Institute of management.

Trained Economist with a Masters degree in Development Economics. He is a Management Development Consultant in Project Management. His responsibilities include designing and conducting training in project management, HIV and AIDS and conducting research in the social sector as an individual or as part of a multi-disciplinary team of experts. Mr Mwanza has also been teaching the Diploma course in Project Management that is run by University of Cambridge in conjunction with the Malawi Institute of Management.
Mr Mwanza recently attended a Multi- disciplinary Programme Course on Integrating HIV/AIDS and development into the Curricula Selected African Development Institutes in Pretoria, South Africa. The course brought together participants from Uganda, Kenya, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Zambia, Lesotho, Swaziland and Ethiopia. Apart from the scheduled presentations the course accorded participants with lots of opportunities for information sharing and field visits. The role and set up of National AIDS Coordinating bodies was of particular focus.
His experience with the Economic Planning and Development (as an Economic Planner) and Ministry of Finance as a Budget Officer will be very crucial in the assignment. |
